Writer: Tyrone Tony Reed Jr.Tyrone Tony Reed Jr.

Welcome to another Favor Fridays with Tony! Today is the 7th day of Women's History Month, a time dedicated to honoring the incredible contributions of women throughout history. Women have played an essential role in shaping faith, culture, and society, using their influence to create change, uplift communities, and inspire future generations. God’s favor grants influence, and throughout history, we see how women have used that influence to impact the world in powerful ways.

The Power of Influence in Faith and History

Influence is a divine gift—one that can be used for good when rooted in faith and purpose. Proverbs 31:26 (The Message) reminds us:

“When she speaks she has something worthwhile to say, and she always says it kindly.”

This verse captures the essence of God-given influence—using wisdom, grace, and strength to make a difference. The ability to shape minds, shift cultures, and guide others toward purpose is a favor from God that should be nurtured and celebrated.

Biblical Women Who Used Their Influence for Good

Throughout the Bible, we see women who used their influence to fulfill God’s plan and bring about change. Their stories remind us that God equips women with favor, wisdom, and strength to lead, nurture, and inspire.

1. Deborah – A Leader of Justice (Judges 4-5)

Deborah was a prophetess and judge of Israel, known for her wisdom and leadership. She played a crucial role in guiding the Israelites to victory, showing that influence rooted in faith leads to triumph. Her story teaches us that women are called to lead, advise, and bring justice.

2. Esther – A Queen Who Saved a Nation (Esther 4:14)

Queen Esther risked her life to save her people, using her position to advocate for justice. She understood that influence must be used with courage and wisdom, proving that one woman’s bravery can change the fate of an entire generation.

3. Mary, the Mother of Jesus – A Legacy of Obedience (Luke 1:38)

Mary’s willingness to accept God’s plan for her life influenced the course of history. She raised Jesus, the Savior of the world, demonstrating that a mother’s influence can shape the future.

Black Women in History Who Used Their Influence to Shape the World

Women of faith have always played a key role in Black history, breaking barriers and leaving a legacy that continues to inspire generations. These women walked in God’s favor, using their influence to bring about justice, empowerment, and faith.

1. Ida B. Wells – A Legacy of Truth and Justice

Ida B. Wells was a journalist, educator, and early leader in the civil rights movement. She used her voice and investigative skills to expose the horrors of lynching in America. Through her writing and activism, she shaped the fight for racial and gender equality, proving that influence rooted in truth and justice can change society.

2. Septima Poinsette Clark – The Mother of the Civil Rights Movement

Septima Clark was an educator and activist who believed literacy and education were powerful tools for liberation. She developed citizenship schools that taught Black Americans how to read and write, empowering them to exercise their voting rights and advocate for justice. Her influence laid the foundation for widespread change in the civil rights movement.

3. Dorothy Height – The Architect of Social Change

Dorothy Height was a tireless advocate for women’s rights and racial justice. As the president of the National Council of Negro Women, she worked alongside leaders like Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and helped organize the 1963 March on Washington. Her commitment to social change and equality left an indelible mark on history.

4. Mary McLeod Bethune – A Legacy of Education and Empowerment

Mary McLeod Bethune was a trailblazing educator and civil rights leader who believed in the power of education to transform lives. She founded Bethune-Cookman University and served as an advisor to multiple U.S. presidents, advocating for racial and gender equality. Her influence continues to inspire those fighting for education and empowerment in marginalized communities.

5. Michelle Obama – A Champion of Education and Empowerment

Michelle Obama’s influence extends beyond politics; she has used her platform to advocate for education, health, and women’s empowerment. Her grace and intelligence continue to inspire women to walk in excellence and faith.

How to Walk in the Favor of Influence Today

God grants influence not just for personal success, but to uplift and guide others. Here’s how you can embrace the favor of influence in your own life:

1. Use Your Voice for Good

Speak life into those around you. Whether in your family, workplace, or community, your words have the power to encourage, uplift, and inspire.

2. Lead with Integrity and Wisdom

Proverbs 3:5-6 (The Message) reminds us:

“Trust God from the bottom of your heart; don’t try to figure out everything on your own. Listen for God’s voice in everything you do.”

Seek God’s wisdom in your leadership and use your influence to guide others with integrity.

3. Invest in the Next Generation

Mentorship is a powerful way to pass down wisdom and faith. Just as older women mentored younger women in the Bible, we must invest in those coming after us.

4. Take Bold Steps of Faith

Influence often requires stepping out of your comfort zone. Like Esther, be willing to take risks for a greater purpose.

5. Support Women Who Are Making a Difference

Women’s History Month is a reminder to uplift and celebrate the women around us. Whether it’s a friend, colleague, or historical figure, recognize and appreciate their influence.

Closing Thoughts: Embracing the Favor of Influence

As we celebrate Women’s History Month, let’s reflect on how God grants favor to women to shape history, impact communities, and guide future generations. From biblical heroines to modern-day changemakers, women’s influence is undeniable and essential.

How will you use your influence? Will you uplift others, fight for justice, and build a legacy of faith?

Remember, the favor of influence is a gift—one that can change lives and transform the world. Walk boldly in the influence God has given you, and make an impact that lasts.
