Welcome to another Favor Fridays with Tony! This week, we’re focusing on something we all need more of—peace. In a world filled with uncertainty, stress, and daily challenges, God’s favor grants us a peace that surpasses all understanding. This peace is not just a feeling but a divine gift, a favor that allows us to remain steady even when life feels chaotic.
The Gift of God’s Peace
Peace is one of God’s greatest gifts to us, and it is an essential part of walking in His favor. John 14:27 (The Message) says, “I’m leaving you well and whole—that’s my parting gift to you. Peace. I don’t leave you the way you’re used to being left—feeling abandoned, bereft. So don’t be upset. Don’t be distraught.”
This verse reminds us that Jesus Himself left us His peace, a peace unlike anything the world offers. It’s not dependent on circumstances, emotions, or external stability; it comes directly from the presence of God in our lives.
Biblical Examples of Peace
The Bible is filled with stories of individuals who experienced God’s favor through peace, even in the midst of trials:
1. Daniel in the Lions’ Den (Daniel 6)
Daniel was thrown into the lion’s den for his unwavering faith, yet he remained calm, trusting in God’s protection. The peace Daniel exhibited was a testament to his faith. And because of his trust, God’s favor delivered him unharmed. His story teaches us that true peace comes from knowing that God is in control.
2. Jesus Calming the Storm (Mark 4:35-41)
During a fierce storm, Jesus slept peacefully in the boat while His disciples panicked. When they woke Him, He rebuked the wind and waves, saying, “Quiet! Be still!” Immediately, the storm ceased. This moment reveals that peace is not the absence of storms but the presence of Jesus in the storm. When we trust in Him, we can find calm in the most turbulent situations.
3. Paul and Silas Singing in Prison (Acts 16:25-26)
Paul and Silas were beaten and thrown into prison, yet instead of complaining, they worshiped God. Their peace and joy in suffering led to a miraculous prison break, proving that God’s peace is transformative. When we have His peace, we can worship and trust Him even in the darkest times.
The Favor of Peace in Our Lives
Peace is a sign of God’s favor. When we walk in peace, we reflect His divine presence. Here are some ways we experience the favor of peace:
1. Peace in the Waiting
Waiting is never easy, but God’s peace sustains us. Isaiah 26:3 (The Message) says, “People with their minds set on you, you keep completely whole, steady on their feet, because they keep at it and don’t quit.” When we trust in God’s timing, we can rest instead of worry.
2. Peace in Relationships
God’s favor brings peace to our relationships. Colossians 3:15 (The Message) tells us, “Let the peace of Christ keep you in tune with each other, in step with each other. None of this going off and doing your own thing. And cultivate thankfulness.” When we operate in God’s peace, we handle conflicts with grace and love.
3. Peace in Difficult Times
Peace is most evident when we face difficulties. Philippians 4:6-7 (The Message) reminds us, “Don’t fret or worry. Instead of worrying, pray. Let petitions and praises shape your worries into prayers, letting God know your concerns. Before you know it, a sense of God’s wholeness, everything coming together for good, will come and settle you down.” Prayer is the key to accessing God’s peace.
Practical Ways to Walk in the Favor of Peace
Stay in God’s Word – The Bible is a source of peace. Meditate on scriptures that remind you of His promises.
Pray Regularly – Prayer is our direct connection to God. When we cast our cares on Him, He fills us with peace.
Let Go of Control – Surrendering to God’s plan allows us to trust Him fully, reducing anxiety and worry.
Forgive Freely – Holding onto anger robs us of peace. Choose to forgive and let go of bitterness.
Surround Yourself with Peaceful Influences – Be mindful of what you consume (news, social media, conversations) and choose peace-filled environments.
Practice Gratitude – A grateful heart experiences more peace. Focus on what God has already done in your life.
Modern-Day Examples of Peace
Fred Rogers: Known for his kindness and gentle spirit, Mister Rogers shared messages of peace and love, reminding us to treat one another with respect and understanding.
Martin Luther King Jr.: He led a movement of nonviolent resistance with a heart full of peace, trusting that God’s justice would prevail.
Corrie Ten Boom: A Holocaust survivor who forgave her captors and lived a life filled with God’s peace, proving that peace is a choice, even in suffering.
Closing Thoughts: Embracing the Favor of Peace
Peace is not just the absence of problems but the presence of God. It is a divine favor that allows us to walk through life’s storms without fear. As we embrace God’s peace, we become beacons of
His light in a world that desperately needs calm and assurance.
Let’s walk in the favor of peace this week, trusting that no matter what comes our way, God is in control. He has given us peace as a gift—let’s embrace it fully.
