Reap What You Sow Mondays with Tony: Reaping What You Sow

Life is like a garden, and each choice you make is a seed planted in the soil of your future. We often hear about "sowing and reaping," but what does this mean in practice? Just as farmers plant specific seeds to grow their crops, each of us chooses what seeds to plant through our words, actions, and intentions. These seeds—whether they are kindness, discipline, or integrity—determine the kind of harvest we'll reap in the future.

The Message translation of Galatians 6:7-8 reminds us: "Don’t be misled: No one makes a fool of God. What a person plants, he will harvest. The person who plants selfishness, ignoring the needs of others—harvests a crop of weeds. All he’ll have to show for his life is weeds! But the one who plants in response to God, letting God’s Spirit do the growth work in him, harvests a crop of real life, eternal life."

In S.O.L.A.D.™: Soldiers of Light Against Darkness™, the characters are continually confronted with choices that test their integrity, strength, and commitment to a cause greater than themselves. For example, Jeff, the “Ward of Law,” plants seeds of courage, resilience, and sacrificial love as he fights the forces of darkness to protect others. Though he faces losses and heartbreak, Jeff’s persistence in planting good seeds—even in the face of overwhelming odds—yields a powerful impact, inspiring those around him and reinforcing his purpose.

Each action taken by Jeff, whether to protect the villagers or resist the Demon Master’s taunts, mirrors the scripture’s wisdom. Every selfless choice reaps a harvest of hope, courage, and resilience, bringing light to those who are lost in darkness. Jeff’s journey is a reminder that even small, positive choices can influence a much larger outcome. This theme from S.O.L.A.D. teaches us that we, too, are responsible for the seeds we plant each day, whether in our families, workplaces, or communities.

2 Corinthians 9:6-7 from The Message also encourages us: "Remember: A stingy planter gets a stingy crop; a lavish planter gets a lavish crop. I want each of you to take plenty of time to think it over and make up your own mind what you will give. That will protect you against sob stories and arm-twisting. God loves it when the giver delights in the giving."

Every choice, every word, every act of kindness we extend is a seed planted for the future. Like Jeff, we are asked to give our best, even when it’s difficult. Sometimes, life’s circumstances seem to pull us toward negativity, despair, or selfishness. However, these verses urge us to intentionally plant seeds of hope, faith, and generosity. And just as Jeff stands firm, we can remember that our efforts to sow wisely and generously will yield a harvest that is as enduring as it is transformative.

Today is Veteran’s Day, a day to honor those who have planted seeds of service, sacrifice, and bravery in the soil of freedom. Our veterans and active-duty service members demonstrate what it means to sow seeds of courage, discipline, and dedication. Because of their sacrifices, we reap the blessings of safety, security, and the freedom to pursue our dreams. Let us take a moment to reflect on their selflessness, knowing that they have fought and continue to fight to protect our freedoms and way of life. Their courage is a powerful reminder of the harvest that comes from planting seeds of commitment, bravery, and honor.

To all our veterans: thank you for your service, for the sacrifices you've made, and for the example you set. Your legacy reminds us of the importance of what we choose to plant in our own lives and communities. May we honor you by living lives of purpose and gratitude, continually sowing seeds of kindness, compassion, and service.
