Reap What You Sow Mondays with Tony: The Power of Consistency

Consistency is an often-overlooked pillar of success. In a world focused on instant results, we can easily forget that true greatness comes from small, faithful actions repeated day after day. But when our efforts align with the goals God has placed in our hearts, He strengthens us and provides the perseverance we need to see them through.

Some days, though, it’s not easy to stay consistent. There were times in my journey as an author when it felt like no one wanted to support or believe in my dream. At conventions, I’ve had people walk past my table, even those who look like me, who I created these superheroes for—so we could see ourselves represented and celebrated, with heroes who look like us and live lives that resonate with our experiences. But even in those difficult moments, God blessed me, kept me moving forward, and renewed my faith that things will turn around.

Just as a farmer prepares the soil, plants seeds, and tends to his crops daily, we, too, must nurture our dreams and callings with diligence and patience. Scripture teaches us about the principle of sowing and reaping, reminding us that every consistent effort, especially when rooted in faith, will yield a harvest in God’s timing. “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” (Galatians 6:9, NIV)

Why Consistency Matters in Fulfilling God’s Purpose

When God gives you a vision, He also gives you the strength to pursue it. But that doesn’t mean the road will be easy. Each step toward fulfilling His purpose requires us to act with intention and to remain consistent, even when results aren’t immediately visible. The Bible encourages us to act with diligence and not give up, as our faithfulness will ultimately be rewarded.

Consider Proverbs 12:24: “Diligent hands will rule, but laziness ends in forced labor.” This verse illustrates that those who are diligent in their efforts will be blessed with success and leadership. God values diligence, as it reflects trust in Him and commitment to His calling. Our consistency demonstrates our faith that He is working behind the scenes to make all things work together for our good (Romans 8:28).

The Role of Faith in Building Consistency

As believers, our consistency is anchored in our faith. We do not labor in vain but in faith, trusting that God’s promises are true. When we commit to being consistent in our actions, we are, in essence, saying, “God, I trust You to bring the increase.” The apostle Paul reminds us in 1 Corinthians 3:6 - 7, “I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the increase. So then neither he who plants is anything, nor he who waters, but God who gives the increase.” Our role is to plant and water with faith, leaving the results to Him.

Staying consistent, even when progress feels slow, is an act of obedience and faith. In doing so, we honor God’s timing and learn to rely on His strength rather than our own. Philippians 4:13, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me,” reinforces that Christ is our source of strength. When our focus remains on Him, He enables us to remain steadfast.

Building Habits to Support God’s Calling

Building godly habits is essential in walking out our purpose. Each day, when we choose to be consistent, we are forming habits that align our lives with God’s will. These habits are like building blocks, gradually shaping us into the person God created us to be. By aligning our daily actions with His Word, we experience growth, resilience, and spiritual maturity.

James 1:4 states, “Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.” As we persevere, God molds our character, equipping us for His plans. Each step we take in faith builds upon the last, creating a momentum that draws us closer to His purposes for our lives.

Trusting God in the Process

It’s easy to become discouraged when we don’t see immediate results. However, the Bible assures us that God is faithful and will finish the work He started in us. Philippians 1:6 reminds us of this promise: “Being confident of this, that He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.” Our journey requires us to trust God’s timing and be patient, knowing that every small, consistent effort is part of a larger plan.

When challenges arise, remember that God is not only with you but also using every trial to refine you. James 1:3-4 tells us, “Because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.” God’s purpose is not only for us to reach the destination but to grow through the journey. Our consistency is a tool He uses to strengthen our faith, endurance, and reliance on Him.

Examples of Consistency in the Bible

Scripture is filled with examples of people who remained consistent in their faith, even when the journey seemed impossible. Consider Noah, who spent decades building the ark despite ridicule and without any sign of rain. Or Daniel, who prayed consistently, maintaining his faith even under threat of death. Both were rewarded for their unwavering consistency and faith.

One of the most remarkable examples is found in the story of Joseph. Despite betrayal, slavery, and imprisonment, Joseph remained faithful to God. His consistency in character and commitment to honoring God eventually led him to a position of influence where he could fulfill God’s purpose for his life. Genesis 50:20 shows Joseph’s understanding of God’s plan: “You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives.” Joseph’s story reminds us that even the setbacks and trials we face are part of God’s greater plan.

Practical Steps to Cultivate Consistency with God’s Help

  1. Start Small and Be Patient: Begin with manageable goals that you can incorporate daily. Pray for strength each day to remain consistent in these small actions, trusting that God will grow them in His timing.

  2. Stay Rooted in Scripture: God’s Word is our guide. Verses like Psalm 37:5, “Commit your way to the Lord; trust in Him, and He will act,” serve as reminders to trust Him with our efforts.

  3. Rely on God’s Strength: When you feel weary, remember that God’s strength is made perfect in your weakness. Isaiah 40:31 assures us, “But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” Lean on Him for the endurance to continue.

  4. Celebrate Small Victories: Recognize and thank God for each step you accomplish. Gratitude keeps you motivated and aware of His hand at work in your life.

  5. Pray Consistently for Guidance and Perseverance: Consistency in prayer brings clarity and renews your commitment to your God-given goals.

  6. Seek Accountability: Share your goals with others who can encourage you in your journey. “As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.” (Proverbs 27:17)

Reaping a Harvest in God’s Timing

Remember that your work is never in vain when done in alignment with God’s will. Ecclesiastes 3:1 reminds us that “there is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens.” God’s timing may not always align with ours, but it is always perfect. When we remain faithful in the small things, God will entrust us with greater things.

Ultimately, the harvest belongs to God. As we remain consistent, He brings forth the fruit, often in ways beyond our understanding. Jesus encourages us in John 15:5, “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in Me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from Me you can do nothing.” When we stay connected to Him, we have His strength, wisdom, and peace, guiding us every step of the way.

Consistency, when rooted in faith, is a powerful tool in fulfilling our God-given purpose. Trusting in God’s timing, leaning on His strength, and faithfully sowing seeds each day, we can be confident that He will bring a harvest. May we remain patient and diligent, knowing that “those who sow with tears will reap with songs of joy.” (Psalm 126:5)

Through this journey, I’ve seen firsthand the power of consistency. I’ve felt God’s blessings as I completed two novels in my superhero series, S.O.L.A.D.™: Soldiers of Light Against Darkness™. Each book represents God’s faithfulness and the strength He’s given me to keep going.
