The New Year often brings with it anticipation and hope—hope that things will finally fall into place, that long-awaited dreams will come true, and that life will move forward in a meaningful way. Yet, what happens when we find ourselves in a season of waiting, when progress seems slow, and nothing appears to be changing? How do we maintain faith when it feels like God has pressed pause on our lives?

In the prologue of Book II of S.O.L.A.D.™: Soldiers of Light Against Darkness™, Jerry Wiseman and Jeffrey Wardlaw embody this struggle. They’ve spent a year waiting for a portal to open, unsure of when or if it will happen, but trusting that the moment will come. Their story offers a powerful reminder that waiting is not wasted time—it’s a season of preparation, trust, and growth.

The Challenge of Waiting

In S.O.L.A.D.™, Jerry and Jeff’s year of waiting is marked by uncertainty. Despite their dedication, they don’t know when the portal will open or what dangers they will face on the other side. Still, they remain faithful, returning to the same spot day after day, trusting in the confirmation they received. This mirrors how we often feel in life—waiting for breakthroughs, answers to prayers, or the fulfillment of promises.

Waiting can feel frustrating, even discouraging. Proverbs 13:12 (NKJV) captures this sentiment well: “Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but when the desire comes, it is a tree of life.” Yet, just as Jerry and Jeff remained steadfast, we are called to trust in God’s timing, even when it feels like nothing is happening.

Faith in God’s Timing

Jerry’s words to Jeff—“Have faith and pray that Kevin, Juanita, and their world are all right”—highlight a crucial truth: waiting isn’t passive. It’s an active process of trusting God, staying prepared, and continuing to seek His guidance.

Ecclesiastes 3:11 (NKJV) reminds us, “He has made everything beautiful in its time.” God’s timing is always perfect, even when it doesn’t align with our own expectations. Jerry and Jeff’s faith in the unseen is a testament to the power of trusting God, even when we don’t have all the answers.

What to Do While You Wait

Kevin Edwards and Juanita Grayson were sent on a mission to save a world in chaos. Though they left a year ago, Jerry and Jeff didn’t sit idly by. They spent their time preparing, ensuring they had the supplies and knowledge needed for whatever lay ahead. This proactive approach offers valuable lessons for us during our own seasons of waiting:

  1. Stay Prepared:

Waiting is not a time to be idle. Use this season to strengthen your skills, deepen your faith, and prepare for the opportunities ahead.

  2. Seek Wisdom:

Just as Jerry and Jeff relied on their mentor’s guidance, we can seek wisdom through prayer, Scripture, and trusted mentors. James 1:5 (NKJV) promises, “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.”

  3. Maintain Hope:

It’s easy to grow weary in waiting, but Galatians 6:9 (NKJV) encourages us, “And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.” Hold onto hope, knowing that God’s promises never fail.

When the Moment Comes

After a year of waiting, the portal finally opens, and Jerry and Jeff are ready. Their preparation and patience pay off as they embark on their mission. This moment reflects a beautiful truth: when God moves, things can change in an instant. The waiting may feel long, but when the breakthrough comes, it’s worth every moment of preparation.

Isaiah 40:31 (NKJV) offers encouragement for those in waiting: “But those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.”

An Invitation to Trust

As we begin 2025, perhaps you find yourself in a season of waiting—waiting for a breakthrough, healing, direction, or the fulfillment of a dream. Jerry and Jeff’s story reminds us that waiting is not wasted time. It’s a season for growth, preparation, and deepening your trust in God.

Ask yourself:

  • What am I waiting for in this season?

  • How can I use this time to grow in faith and prepare for what’s ahead?

  • Am I trusting in God’s timing, even when it doesn’t align with my expectations?

Encouragement for the Journey

Here are some verses and quotes to encourage you as you wait:

  • “Wait on the Lord; be of good courage, and He shall strengthen your heart; wait, I say, on the Lord!” (Psalm 27:14 NKJV)

  • “For the vision is yet for an appointed time; but at the end it will speak, and it will not lie. Though it tarries, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry.” (Habakkuk 2:3 NKJV)

  • “God’s delays are not God’s denials.” — Robert Schuller

  • “Patience is not simply the ability to wait—it’s how we behave while we’re waiting.” — Joyce Meyer

A Final Word

In Book II of S.O.L.A.D.™, Jerry and Jeff’s year of waiting wasn’t easy, but it was purposeful. Their patience, preparation, and faith ultimately led them to the mission they were called to fulfill. As you step into 2025, remember that God is working in your waiting. Trust His timing, stay prepared, and keep the faith.
