Reed’s Reads of Wisdom Wednesdays: The Strength to Stand Alone—A Reflection on Modern Struggles and Triumphs

Writer: Tyrone Tony Reed Jr.Tyrone Tony Reed Jr.

Introduction: The Strength to Walk Alone in Today’s World

Today marks the 12th day of Women’s History Month, a time dedicated to recognizing the power, resilience, and triumphs of women throughout history. Yet, while we celebrate their victories, we must also acknowledge the loneliness, sacrifice, and self-discovery that have shaped their journeys.

The ability to stand alone, even when the world turns away, is a defining characteristic of strong women. It is a challenge that many have faced—not just in history, but in the modern world, in personal battles, careers, faith, and even politics.

In my novel, S.O.L.A.D™: Soldiers of Light Against Darkness™: Book I of the Angelo™ and Angeline™ Chronicles, Juanita Grayson (Angeline) is forced into a season of solitude when Kevin Edwards (Angelo) disappears without explanation. Five weeks of silence. Five weeks of unanswered questions. Five weeks of finding strength within herself.

Her story mirrors the reality that many women face today:

  • The single mother raising children without support.

  • The professional woman fighting for recognition in a male-dominated workplace.

  • The believer holding onto faith despite hardship.

  • The activist standing alone against injustice.

  • The woman in politics enduring scrutiny, criticism, and double standards.

The ability to stand strong in solitude is not just a test—it is a transformation.

When Life Forces You to Stand Alone

Throughout history, women have navigated trials without certainty, without a safety net, and often, without the support they deserved. Like Juanita, many women today still face seasons of loneliness and uncertainty, waiting for answers that may never come.

📖 Isaiah 41:10 (NKJV):"Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand."

What do you do when:

  • The promotion goes to someone else?

  • The relationship ends without explanation?

  • The dream you worked for crumbles?

  • You feel unheard, unseen, or unappreciated?

Like Juanita, you keep moving forward.

“Yesterday, I lifted four boulders, at the same time, from a distance, with telekinesis to distract a pack of demon dogs while I transformed into Angeline.”Juanita Grayson, "Lives Apart" | Book I of SOLAD™

Even through pain, Juanita trained, grew stronger, and became the warrior she was meant to be. Women in today’s world are doing the same—rising despite adversity.

The Strength of Women in History and Today

Women’s history is filled with stories of isolation before impact, rejection before recognition, and struggle before success. Consider:

  • Harriet Tubman walked away from slavery alone, before leading hundreds to freedom.

  • Sojourner Truth stood alone and asked, “Ain’t I a woman?”—demanding justice when no one else would.

  • Rosa Parks sat alone on a bus before sparking a movement.

  • Fannie Lou Hamer stood alone in front of the Democratic Party, sharing her story of oppression.

  • Kamala Harris became the first woman, first Black woman, and first South Asian woman to serve as U.S. Vice President, shattering centuries-old barriers.

  • Serena Williams faced racism and sexism in professional tennis, yet she became one of the greatest athletes of all time.

  • Women in Iran, Afghanistan, and around the world are still standing alone against oppressive regimes, risking their lives for freedom.

📖 Proverbs 31:25 (NKJV):"Strength and honor are her clothing; she shall rejoice in time to come."

The Modern Battle: Women in Career, Faith, and Politics

Juanita’s story is not just about standing alone—it’s about what you do in that solitude. Women today are still proving themselves in every arena of life:

1. In the Workplace: Fighting for Recognition

Women in business, law, STEM, and other male-dominated industries continue to fight for equal pay, leadership roles, and respect. Like Juanita, they must push forward, even when overlooked or doubted.

📖 Galatians 6:9 (NKJV):"And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart."

2. In Faith: Holding Onto God Through Uncertainty

Many women feel isolated in their spiritual journeys—praying for healing, restoration, or breakthrough, wondering when God will answer. But faith is built in solitude.

“I know God is with me and I can feel His presence. It's just, sometimes... most times... I miss having a physical presence that I can see and touch.”Juanita Grayson, "Lives Apart" | Book I of SOLAD™

3. In Politics: Battling Double Standards

Women in politics face scrutiny for their tone, their decisions, their appearance, and even their families in ways that men do not. The world still hesitates to see women as strong, decisive leaders—yet they continue to prove that they are more than capable.

📖 Psalm 46:5 (NKJV):"God is in the midst of her, she shall not be moved; God shall help her, just at the break of dawn."

Lessons from Juanita’s Journey

Juanita’s story speaks to every woman who has ever felt abandoned, uncertain, or unappreciated. If you find yourself in a season of standing alone, remember these truths:

  1. Your worth is not determined by who stays or leaves.

    • You are still powerful, with or without them.

  2. Your pain is not permanent.

    • What you endure today will be your testimony tomorrow.

  3. You are capable of more than you think.

    • Juanita became stronger, faster, and wiser in Kevin’s absence. So will you.

  4. Faith and action go hand in hand.

    • God’s presence was with Juanita, but she also had to do the work—train, develop, and move forward.

  5. Strength doesn’t mean you don’t feel the pain.

    • Even strong women cry, question, and long for comfort. But strength is in what you do after the tears fall.

Encouragement for Women Walking This Path

To the woman who feels alone: You are not forgotten. Your story is still being written. Your strength is still being revealed. You are enough.

📖 Romans 8:28 (NKJV):"And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose."

Like Juanita, you will emerge from this season stronger, wiser, and more powerful than you ever imagined.
