Reed’s Reads of Wisdom Wednesdays: The Wages of Sin—A Reckoning of Justice, Consequence, and Redemption

Writer: Tyrone Tony Reed Jr.Tyrone Tony Reed Jr.

On this 26th day of Black History Month, we reflect on justice, consequence, and the inevitable reckoning that follows sin and wrongdoing. History has shown that when evil is left unchecked, it grows—but justice, even if delayed, always finds its way.

This theme resonates in Book II of S.O.L.A.D.™: Soldiers of Light Against Darkness™, particularly in Chapter 11: “The Wages of Sin”, where Angelo (Kevin Edwards), Angeline (Juanita Grayson), Jeff, and Wiseman J face Scourge—a demoness who thrives on destruction and vengeance. Scourge does not seek true justice; she seeks punishment, chaos, and the continuation of wickedness.

This battle is not just about survival—it’s about standing firm in righteousness, knowing that those who perpetuate injustice will always face the consequences of their actions. This truth echoes in Black history, where generations of oppression were met with movements of resistance, revolution, and ultimately, justice.

The fight against Scourge in S.O.L.A.D.™ parallels the historical fight against slavery, segregation, and systemic racism—forces that believed they were untouchable, only to crumble under the weight of truth and perseverance.

The Nature of Evil—How the Wicked Deceive

When Scourge confronts Angelo and his team, she speaks as though she is the one delivering justice, but her actions reveal her true intent. She doesn’t want fairness—she wants destruction. She tells Angelo, “Time for you all to pay for sinning against my master,” before singling him out, “But you, boy, I’m going to kill you very, very slowly.”

📖 Isaiah 5:20 (NKJV):"Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil; Who put darkness for light, and light for darkness; Who put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!"

Throughout history, oppressors have cloaked their wickedness in the language of justice:

  • Slave traders claimed that human bondage was “necessary” for economic growth.

  • Jim Crow laws were defended as a means of keeping “order.”

  • Mass incarceration has been justified as “law and order,” disproportionately targeting Black communities.

Like Scourge, those who inflict harm on others often believe they are above judgment—but history, like the battle in S.O.L.A.D.™, proves otherwise.

The Cost of Sin—Why Justice Cannot Be Avoided

As the battle rages, Angelo finds himself facing the full wrath of Scourge’s fury. She lashes him with her scourges, tearing into his back and yanking pieces of his flesh off. The pain is overwhelming, but he refuses to bow to her cruelty.

📖 Romans 6:23 (NKJV):"For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord."

Sin always demands a price. In history, those who built their power on injustice ultimately saw their systems collapse:

  • The Transatlantic Slave Trade ended, leaving nations to grapple with the consequences of its horrors.

  • Segregation crumbled under the Civil Rights Movement, exposing the moral bankruptcy of racism.

  • Apartheid was dismantled in South Africa, proving that oppression cannot last forever.

Like Angelo, Black leaders and activists endured immense pain but refused to surrender to wickedness.

The Power of Unity—Why Righteousness Must Stand Together

Angelo is not alone in his fight. Angeline, Jeff, and Wiseman J stand alongside him, refusing to let evil go unchallenged. Jeff attacks Scourge with his staff, and Angeline lands a devastating punch to her face, sending her flying across the room.

📖 Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 (NKJV):"Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their labor. For if they fall, one will lift up his companion. But woe to him who is alone when he falls, for he has no one to help him up."

This mirrors the unity seen in Black history, where:

  • The Underground Railroad succeeded because of collective efforts.

  • The Montgomery Bus Boycott was victorious because thousands of people refused to break.

  • The March on Washington was effective because voices joined together in one powerful cry for justice.

Victory is never won alone—righteousness must always move as a unified force.

The Ultimate Price—The Sacrifice for Justice

As the battle intensifies, the heroes of S.O.L.A.D.™ face a devastating moment that shakes them to their core. In their fight against Scourge, one of their own makes a decision that will forever impact the battle—and their hearts.

📖 John 15:13 (NKJV):"Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends."

Throughout history, great victories have often come at great cost:

  • The courage of enslaved individuals who risked everything for freedom.

  • The sacrifices of Civil Rights leaders who endured brutal opposition.

  • The unwavering dedication of activists who fought for justice, knowing they might not live to see its full fruition.

In the darkest battles, the willingness to stand, to fight, and to sacrifice is what turns the tide. Though pain and loss may follow, the impact of true warriors—past and present—will never fade.

The Victory of Righteousness—Evil Always Falls

Despite the pain and loss, the heroes of S.O.L.A.D.™ do not give up. In the final moments of battle, Jeff, despite his injuries, delivers the final blow, piercing Scourge’s chest with his glowing white staff. Angeline follows up with a lethal strike, and Scourge is reduced to nothing but ashes.

📖 Proverbs 11:19 (NKJV):"As righteousness leads to life, so he who pursues evil pursues it to his own death."

Evil always believes it is invincible—until it falls.

  • Slavery fell.

  • Segregation fell.

  • Oppression will always fall when faced with truth.

Angelo, Angeline, Jeff, and Wiseman J’s battle mirrors the timeless truth that justice will always have the last word.

Lessons from The Wages of Sin for Black History Month

1. Injustice Always Faces Judgment

  • Scourge fell, just as slavery, Jim Crow, and apartheid did.

  • The oppressed will not remain oppressed forever.

📖 Galatians 6:7 (NKJV):"Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap."

2. Unity is the Key to Victory

  • Angelo, Angeline, Jeff, and Wiseman J stood together—and won.

  • Black history shows that together, we are unstoppable.

📖 Proverbs 27:17 (NKJV):"As iron sharpens iron, so a man sharpens the countenance of his friend."
