Today marks the 2nd day of Women’s History Month, a time to celebrate the invaluable contributions of women throughout history. Women have played a profound role in shaping faith, leading communities, and standing as pillars of strength and wisdom. From biblical heroines to modern-day leaders, their unwavering faith has propelled movements, uplifted families, and built legacies of perseverance and resilience.
Women of Faith: Anchors of Strength and Leadership
Throughout history, God has called women to be lights in the world, carrying out His will with courage and faith. Proverbs 31:26 (NKJV) reminds us: “She opens her mouth with wisdom, and on her tongue is the law of kindness.” Women of faith have not only nurtured families but have also led revivals, fought for justice, and paved the way for future generations.
As we celebrate Women’s History Month, we recognize the faith-driven women who have inspired change and empowered communities, guided by God’s wisdom and strength.
Faithful Women Who Changed History
Biblical Women of Faith:
Deborah – A judge, prophetess, and military leader, Deborah led Israel with wisdom and courage when others were afraid. She prophesied victory over their enemies and trusted in God's guidance, proving that leadership is not confined by gender (Judges 4-5).
Esther – A queen who risked her life to save her people, Esther's faith gave her the courage to approach the king and intercede on behalf of the Jewish people. Her story reminds us that God positions us for greatness for His divine purpose (Esther 4:16).
Mary Magdalene – A devoted follower of Christ, she was the first to witness His resurrection and spread the good news (John 20:11-18). Her unwavering faith in Jesus showcases the importance of trust and perseverance.
Women of Faith in History:
Harriet Tubman – Known as “Moses,” Harriet Tubman relied heavily on prayer and God’s voice to guide her on the Underground Railroad. She is said to have never lost a single person she led to freedom, demonstrating extraordinary faith and trust in divine intervention.

Ida B. Wells – A journalist and activist, Wells fearlessly exposed racial injustices, particularly the horrors of lynching in America. She believed deeply in the power of truth and justice, using her voice as a tool for change while leaning on God’s strength.
Fannie Lou Hamer – A powerful advocate for voting rights, she endured brutal beatings and death threats but never lost her faith. Declaring, “I’m sick and tired of being sick and tired,” she remained committed to fighting oppression, often singing hymns to encourage herself and others.
Coretta Scott King – More than just the wife of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Coretta was a civil rights leader in her own right. She carried on her husband’s mission, advocating for peace, equality, and justice, all while leaning on her deep faith in God.
Shirley Chisholm – The first Black woman elected to Congress and the first Black woman to run for U.S. president, Chisholm was a devout believer who saw politics as a means of serving people. She famously said, “Service is the rent we pay for the privilege of living on this earth.”
Maya Angelou – A poet and storyteller whose words have encouraged countless individuals, Angelou often spoke of her faith and its role in overcoming adversity. Her memoirs and poetry reflect a deep understanding of resilience, love, and God’s guidance.
Marian Anderson – A world-renowned singer who broke racial barriers, Anderson leaned on her faith to overcome discrimination and become the first Black artist to perform at the Metropolitan Opera.
