Tony’s Soldiers of Light Sundays: Women of Purpose – Walking in God’s Calling

Today marks the 16th day of Women’s History Month, a time to recognize the extraordinary contributions of women throughout history. Women of faith have always been at the forefront of change, walking boldly in God’s calling, even when faced with great challenges. Their faith, courage, and determination have shaped generations, proving that when God calls, He also equips.

Women of faith do not merely exist—they thrive, lead, nurture, and build legacies that echo through generations. Whether in leadership, ministry, activism, or family life, women who embrace God’s purpose have proven that faith fuels impact, and obedience to God’s call brings lasting change.

Women of Purpose in the Bible

God has always chosen women to play pivotal roles in His divine plan. Proverbs 19:21 (NKJV) says, “There are many plans in a man’s heart, nevertheless the Lord’s counsel—that will stand.” Women who surrendered to God’s will fulfilled purposes far beyond what they could have imagined.

Deborah: Leading with Wisdom and Strength

Deborah was a judge, a prophetess, and a military leader, proving that God calls women into leadership. When Israel was in turmoil, Deborah trusted God and gave guidance that led to victory in battle (Judges 4-5). She reminds us that God’s purpose for us is greater than societal limitations. Her life teaches us that boldness in faith leads to breakthroughs.

The Samaritan Woman: Sharing the Gospel Boldly

The woman at the well (John 4) met Jesus and her life changed forever. She became one of the first evangelists, spreading the message of salvation to her entire town. Her story shows that God uses those the world may overlook to do great things. This teaches us that no one is too broken to be used by God.

Ruth: Walking in Purpose Through Loyalty

Ruth followed Naomi and embraced God’s plan even when she didn’t know what lay ahead. She later became the great-grandmother of King David, proving that God rewards faithfulness and will lead us to where we are meant to be (Ruth 1:16-17). Ruth’s story shows us that faithfulness and obedience lead to divine favor.

Modern Women of Purpose Who Walked in God’s Calling

Michelle Obama: A Legacy of Leadership and Influence

As First Lady, Michelle Obama championed education, health, and empowerment. She often speaks about her faith guiding her, reminding us that walking in purpose means using our influence to uplift others. She teaches us that servant leadership is key to purpose-driven impact.

Taraji P. Henson: Using Her Voice for Mental Health

Award-winning actress Taraji P. Henson launched the Boris Lawrence Henson Foundation to address mental health issues in the Black community. She credits faith and purpose for giving her the courage to speak out and create change. She reminds us that purpose is often birthed from personal struggles.

Oprah Winfrey: A Woman of Purpose and Vision

Despite a challenging upbringing, Oprah used her platform to inspire and educate millions. She often speaks about how faith has shaped her journey, proving that God’s plan for us is greater than our circumstances. Oprah’s story reminds us that purpose is about creating opportunities for others.

Priscilla Shirer: A Voice for Women in Spiritual Warfare

Priscilla Shirer is a Bible teacher, author, and speaker, equipping women to embrace their God-given power. She reminds us that purpose isn’t just about success—it’s about spiritual impact. Her teachings remind us that faith is a weapon against doubt and fear.

Sarah Jakes Roberts: Transforming Pain into Purpose

Sarah Jakes Roberts, daughter of Bishop T.D. Jakes, overcame personal struggles and now inspires women worldwide through her ministry, books, and conferences. She shows us that our past doesn’t disqualify us from God’s purpose—He uses it for His glory. Her journey teaches us that redemption is a pathway to purpose.

Lessons from Women of Purpose

  1. God’s Purpose is Greater Than Our Plans – Deborah and Michelle Obama show us that when we trust God, He positions us for leadership.

  2. Your Story Can Inspire Others – The Samaritan woman and Sarah Jakes Roberts remind us that God can turn our testimony into a movement.

  3. Walking in Purpose Requires Faith – Ruth and Priscilla Shirer prove that we don’t have to see the full picture to trust God’s direction.

Faith and Purpose in S.O.L.A.D.™

In my novel series S.O.L.A.D.™: Soldiers of Light Against Darkness™, the women who step into their God-ordained purposes are powerful, resilient, and unwavering in their faith. They embody the struggles and triumphs of real-world women who refuse to let fear or obstacles hinder their calling. These women represent different aspects of faith-driven leadership, strength, and endurance.

Juanita Grayson (Angeline): The Reluctant but Chosen Leader

Like Deborah in the Bible, Juanita did not seek leadership, yet God’s calling on her life was undeniable. She possesses the wisdom to discern the right path, the courage to stand against darkness, and the faith to trust in God’s divine plan. Like Ruth, she often walks without seeing the full picture, but her trust in God allows her to lead others to victory.

Melanie: A Warrior Who Fights with Faith and Strategy

Melanie is not just a fighter—she is a tactician, a protector, and a woman of deep intuition. She walks in purpose by balancing battle strategy with faith, knowing that victory does not come from sheer force but from aligning with God’s will. She teaches us that faith is not passive—it is active, strategic, and intentional.

Jesheena: A Visionary Who Trusts God’s Plan

Jesheena has the ability to see beyond the present moment, trusting that God is always working, even when circumstances seem impossible. Like Esther, she is placed in critical moments where her obedience to God’s plan influences the fate of many. She exemplifies how faith requires trust, patience, and bold action when the time is right.

Constance Edwards (Angelica): A Leader Beyond Her Years

Constance, also known as Angelica, is a leader who embraces her divine calling with wisdom far beyond her age. She is like the biblical Mary, whose submission to God’s will brought forth salvation to the world. She reminds us that God equips those He calls, regardless of how the world perceives them.

Kandace Edwards & Isabella Edwards: The Pillars of Generational Faith

Kevin’s mother, Kandace Edwards, and his grandmother, Isabella Edwards, reflect the quiet strength of prayer warriors who shape generations through faith, wisdom, and perseverance. Like Lois and Eunice in the Bible (who taught and influenced Timothy), they ensure that faith is passed down, preparing future leaders to step into their divine assignments. They embody the truth that purpose is not just about personal success—it is about leaving a lasting legacy.

The women in S.O.L.A.D.™ remind us that God calls different people to different purposes. Some lead in battle, others intercede through prayer, and some stand firm as guiding lights for the next generation. But all are essential in the fight against darkness.

Their journeys remind us that God places people where they are meant to be, for a time such as this.
